johnlink bundles his original cast STAR TREK rankings

Six original TREK movies, all in one article, for the low, low, low price of nothing! Below are links to my reviews of each of the six Captain Kirk STAR TREK movies… provided that you ignore that he was in GENERATIONS… and that you ignore the reboot. Amended: Below are links to reviews of each of the six STAR TREK films in which Captain Kirk was the main character and he was played by William Shatner!

Scores for FILM; MOVIE; ACTING; WRITING; BONUS (if applicable). Then the average score.

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979): F: 6; M: 5; A: 4; W: 5; Average: 5

STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN (1982): F: 6; M: 8; A: 6; W: 7; Average: 6.75

STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK (1984): F: 3; M: 5; A: 2; W: 5; Average: 3.75

STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME (1986): F: 5; M: 9; A: 6; W: 5; Average: 6.25

STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER: (1989): F: 4; M: 7; A: 4; W: 2; Average: 4.25

STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY (1991): F:4; M: 8; A: 5; W: 5; Average: 5.5

The verdict? Well, it is good to be an even numbered STAR TREK movie, as those make up the top three in the series. If nothing else, this is a sci-fi story which is much more ambitious than it needed to be. While there are varying levels of quality and success, the third film is the only one which can be accused of mailing it in. Even the fifth, while fatally flawed, is a hell of an effort with Shatner taking the directing duties. All of the films are hurt by acting and writing which ranges from bad to average, so even some of the very solid efforts (KHAN and VOYAGE) are hurt by those aspects, even if they mostly set out to do what it is they intend to do. I had seen none of these films before this year, so I am glad I got at them all.
