The verdict? Well, it is good to be an even numbered STAR TREK movie, as those make up the top three in the series. If nothing else, this is a sci-fi story which is much more ambitious than it needed to be. While there are varying levels of quality and success, the third film is the only one which can be accused of mailing it in. Even the fifth, while fatally flawed, is a hell of an effort with Shatner taking the directing duties. All of the films are hurt by acting and writing which ranges from bad to average, so even some of the very solid efforts (KHAN and VOYAGE) are hurt by those aspects, even if they mostly set out to do what it is they intend to do. I had seen none of these films before this year, so I am glad I got at them all.
