One problem with having kids is that many a movie go through theaters without a chance to see them. This is understandable with small films, but even big movies like ELYSIUM come and go and I never remember them being there (and I work at a movie theater). In the years B.C. (Before Children, of course) I would have been in theaters opening weekend for ELYSIUM. Now, I am catching it on Starz on Demand. Anyway, here’s what I thought…
johnlink ranks DIVERGENT (2014)
•March 30, 2014 • 2 CommentsThe newest lit-to-film cash cow is the series which starts with DIVERGENT based on the trilogy of books by Veronica Roth. I went into DIVERGENT the same exact way I went into HUNGER GAMES. I knew the series was popular, I knew they were both set in post-apocalyptic futures, I knew both had female heroes, and I knew both had an adoring fanbase. If DIVERGENT could prop itself up to the same standard as THE HUNGER GAMES films, I’d be quite alright with that…

•March 23, 2014 • 6 CommentsEnded up sick (again) with a cold the last few days. Was supposed to spend my Saturday evening at a good friend’s birthday outing. Instead, I curled up on the couch with a short movie and was in bed by 10:00. These are the sort of exciting weekends that happen at the Lincoln household. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts on DREDD…
johnlink ranks WHO’S THAT KNOCKING AT MY DOOR (1967)
•March 20, 2014 • 5 CommentsI like to think of myself as someone knowledgeable about film. Then I DVR a film only because it is advertised as the debut of Harvey Keitel. Once I start it, I realize it is also the debut of some minor director named Martin Scorsese. Go figure. The more you think you know, the more you realize you don’t know.

johnlink ranks THE CONJURING (2013)
•March 19, 2014 • 4 CommentsSome have suggested that not being religious makes one less likely to enjoy or be frightened by an exorcism story. But that would be like saying a person couldn’t enjoy INDEPENDENCE DAY unless they believe in aliens. THE CONJURING is a horror film with a solid reputation earned almost entirely by word of mouth after its release. It came without much fanfare, but managed to garner a good deal of appreciation. And, hey, all of this supposedly happened in a house in Rhode Island maybe 20 minutes from where I live. So I am in!

•March 13, 2014 • Leave a CommentI didn’t grow up watching all of the Bond films. They were sort of off my radar. I’ve since been picking them off one by one, and it is probably the only movie series out there that I don’t care which order I see them in. Though I love Daniel Craig in the role, Sean Connery will always be James Bond.
johnlink ranks LINCOLN (2012)
•March 9, 2014 • 6 CommentsOften times, when a movie sports a large and talented cast, the names are there to hide a mediocre script. But, on the other hand, sometimes when a movie sports a large and talented cast because it is a Steven Spielberg historical picture, you know you are in for a treat. LINCOLN, of course, is the latter. The Oscar which Daniel Day-Lewis run for his portrayal of Lincoln was his third, and it was richly deserved.

•March 7, 2014 • 2 CommentsStumbled upon this as available on Amazon Prime. There are so many Buster Keaton movies that I have never even heard of, it is ridiculous. I’ll give anything he is in a watch, no questions asked. SEVEN CHANCES is one of the really solid ones.
