Hadn’t seen this movie in way too long. Probably been a dozen years. I remember so much, especially the surprise Spacey/Farmer-from-BABE scene. I’m closing in on 200 movies watched since the start of this project. There are some movies I want to see before I hit that 200 recap. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL falls under that category.
johnlink ranks SEE NO EVIL (2006)
•September 16, 2010 • Leave a CommentFear Net! It’s been too long since we got together and did our thing. Quinn wasn’t sleeping, so I had a baby holding shift for an hour and a half at 3 AM. Perfect for Fear Net. Don’t worry, I kept the baby facing me. No horror movie for this two week old!
johnlink ranks STREET KINGS (2008)
•September 15, 2010 • Leave a CommentI’m always up for a good R-Rated cop flick. Especially one with Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker. This is more grit than glamor, the kind of thing that was getting green-lit constantly after the success of THE DEPARTED.
johnlink ranks WHITEOUT (2009)
•September 13, 2010 • Leave a CommentI’m always up for a new thriller. I’ve really gotten my money’s worth out of HBO this year, catching up on a bunch of stuff that caught my interest in theaters. WHITEOUT falls under that category.
johnlink ranks FUNNY PEOPLE (2009)
•September 12, 2010 • 1 CommentThis has been on my DVR for awhile but I was a little put off because I heard it was way too long, and I’m usually weary of comedies. But we had a good chunk of time last night, and I finally got to it. By the way, I picked this picture because the shirt is awesome…
johnlink ranks ROMEO AND JULIET (1936)
•September 10, 2010 • Leave a CommentI’ll always hold this play in high regard. I’ve played Romeo twice, and directed the show once. I know it pretty well, but have always found the movie versions too silly and mutated (Dicaprio) or too bland (Zeffirelli). TCM had this 1936 version on, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.
johnlink ranks THE MALTESE FALCON (1931)
•September 9, 2010 • Leave a CommentQuinn was crying, and Liz couldn’t sleep. I told her I’d bring him downstairs so she could get some rest. He settled down after a few minutes, so I figured I’d throw on a movie to pass the time until the 3:30 AM feeding, so Liz could sleep. The original MALTESE FALCON from 1931 (not to be confused with the Bogart version of ten years later) was on the DVR and came in at only 80 minutes. Sometimes, that is how movie watching decisions are made. On a side note, a good note, Quinn slept through the whole movie and Liz got to get an hour and a half of sleep.
johnlink ranks A PERFECT GETAWAY (2009)
•September 8, 2010 • Leave a CommentI love suspense films. So many of them are easily predictable and forgettable, but I love them anyway. Here is an interesting case. A film which was pretty predictable, but that I found myself really enjoying anyway.
johnlink ranks WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? (2006)
•September 7, 2010 • Leave a CommentSundance was airing a documentary I’ve been wanting to catch for awhile, and with this and FOOD, INC., I’m officially on a run of documentaries. As a side note, this is the first movie I’ve ever watched while holding my son. I was sure that movie would have been THE PRINCESS BRIDE, but sometimes these things don’t go as planned.

johnlink ranks (500) DAYS OF SUMMER (2009)
•September 2, 2010 • 1 CommentI’m a big fan of both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. I think they have a decent shot at sticking around as some of the best actors of their generation. I knew they had done this quirky romantic comedy, (500) DAYS OF SUMMER, and I’ve been wanting to see it. I didn’t expect it to launch immediately into any top lists of my favorite all time comedies, but it did. I want to talk about this movie in some detail, so there are spoilers after the jump.
