Liz and I were looking for a nice light cap for our night. Liz loves Will Smith, and the suggestion for I, ROBOT was mutually agreed upon. We both consider this an easily watchable blockbuster, and were more than happy to revisit it.

•May 18, 2010 • 1 CommentHere is yet another film which was on my list of things to see in theaters, but which I never got to. Borrowed it from my brother who, along with the rest of the world, highly recommended that I see it. So, here we go…
johnlink ranks THE HURT LOCKER (2009)
•May 17, 2010 • 2 CommentsThis is a title which will be discussed in Iocaine show 22. I’m very certain that I will not be able to say all I have to say about THE HURT LOCKER in this ranking. This is a layered, interesting, and (personally, anyway) depressing film which went from small Indie title to Oscar winner quickly. There are some spoilers below, but nothing too heavy.
johnlink ranks PRIMER (2004)
•May 10, 2010 • Leave a CommentAfter a series of light fare over the first week of May, I decided to get my hands dirty a little bit and dig into a really solid film. PRIMER is an independent science-fiction drama/suspense flick which is insanely brilliant, and requires a ton of effort from its viewer. If you like heady, smart film and you haven’t seen this, go see it before making the jump below. There are plenty of SPOILERS to be had in this ranking, and this film is one to be experienced without knowing much about it.

•May 9, 2010 • Leave a CommentYou had to know it was coming. After watching the first SHREK a day prior, these other SHREKS are bound to make an appearance on this blog. I am a completist, what can I say.

•May 8, 2010 • 2 CommentsLiz and I were looking for a nice light film last night. She had recently mentioned wanting to see SHREK 3, but I wasn’t about to watch the THIRD movie in a series without first revisiting the others, that would be absurd (ps, IRON MAN 2 got a pass because I saw the first within the last two years). So, late on a Friday night we put in this piece of cultural history.
johnlink ranks IRON MAN 2 (2010)
•May 7, 2010 • Leave a CommentI realized that I haven’t watched the first IRON MAN film since it was released in theaters. Therefore, since that was waaaaay back in 2008, I don’t have a review for it. I was generally surprised by the quality of the first offering, and was anticipating the second installment with great interest.
johnlink ranks BAD BOYS (1995)
•May 5, 2010 • Leave a CommentSeveral thoughts go into this pre-jump intro. 1) I can’t believe BAD BOYS is 15 years old. 2) I must have watched this movie thirty times in high school. 3) I have been both hugely critical of Michael Bay (see: Transformers 2) and very complimentary (see: The Rock). This film would fall mostly into the latter category.
johnlink ranks OPEN WATER 2: ADRIFT (2006)
•May 3, 2010 • Leave a CommentHoly crap. I went the entire month of April without watching a movie. That may be the first time since I was born that such a thing has happened. And last night was a mistake, so to speak. I was tired, absolutely ready for bed. Liz was already asleep and I was just about to get up when the cat jumped on me and fell asleep on my legs. I was too tired (lazy) to get up, so I flipped to IFC and found that OPEN WATER 2 was starting. I figured I’d watch the first ten minutes and lose interest. I guess it says something that I stayed awake. Below are some light spoilers in this article, but nothing you probably wouldn’t have guessed had I asked you to tell me what you think might happen in this film.

johnlink ranks EDMOND (2005)
•March 30, 2010 • Leave a CommentEDMOND is a David Mamet film of the usual kind. This is not his Hollywood turn, as in SPARTAN, this is the style of Mamet script which made him famous. This is a big idea story in the guise of a small film.
